OUR HISTORY

In the 1950s the Knights of Columbus service organization sponsored a hockey league based on Catholic parishes and schools in North York.  This was an alternative to the MTHL at the time. The parishes formed teams which would then compete in arenas around North York.  Thus The North York Knights of Columbus Hockey Association began.

The Knights of Columbus league joined the GTHL as member club in and became non-denominational. Our players come from many faiths.  The League has not been sponsored by the Knights of Columbus for many years. We still name our house league teams after parishes, though, and with the addition of the Pleasantview league to the Knights in 2004, we usually have at least one Pleasantview team in each division.

If you look carefully you will see that our jersey logo shows a penguin on our knight’s chest.  At one time the GTHL rules did not permit the Knights House League to have an affiliated A or AA team and so the A and AA teams to which house league players progressed were called the Penguins.  The Toronto Penguins are now unrelated to the Knights.
